Our pupils participate at “Sekminės” Festival

On the 25th of May Lithuanian families from around the UK gathered in Hampshire to celebrate the traditional feast of Pentecost (Whitsunday).

The day – enjoyed by young and old alike – was filled with performances, traditional dancing and cuisine and was a time to celebrate and enjoy Lithuanian identity, culture and tradition in the UK.
Our school participated in this celebration once again with a performance on stage by our pupils and a marquee and garden for children’s activities, which was very busy all day long:

Alma, our art therapy teacher, painted little frogs on children’s faces and Aiste, our art teacher, taught children of all ages how to paint flowers.
The walls of our marquee gradually flourished with beautiful floral artwork during the course of the day.

Our Leaping Toads singers traditionally welcomed all guests from the stage with traditional Lithuanian songs, with our teacher Erika.

Later, the teachers played games in the activity garden.

Lastly, did you know that Lithuanians in the UK gather each year to celebrate the festival of Pentecost?
And do you all know why we are celebrating? And why cows, birch trees and blossoming flowers are all important items during this feast? Our students will tell you about all it. They invite you to watch this artistic video report.
